A year ago, biologist Stephen W. Hoffman said he felt three raptor species might be declining. Tuesday he had the figures to back up his hunch about two of them. Symphony: The new West Valley Symphony is following its successful premiere performance of October with a special Christmas concert. Conducted by Robert Lentz and associate conductor Stephen Baker, the performance will feature selections from the Nutcracker Suite and Les Miserables.

Riverton
Christmas festival: Riverton and its arts council are sponsoring a three-day Christmas festival at the city park this year. The event will feature holiday food vendors, a play and other activities.
When: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Dec. 12-14. Santa Claus is scheduled to make an appearance from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14.
