Charles B. "Bernie" Erickson, 66, died December 8, 1991 of cancer.
Born September 1, 1925 to Helen B. and Andrew B. Erickson in Hoisington, Kansas. Graduated from East High School, 1942, where he was student body president. Served in the U.S. Maritime in World War II. Married Mary Wright in November, 1945.Received a B.S. and M.S.W. from U of U and retired from Utah State Division of Rehabilitation as a counselor, helping many people with drug and alcohol dependency. He was instrumental in the growth of the Haven Program, a recovery facility.
Member Wasatch Lodge No. 1, F.&.A.M. and El Kalah Shrine; most recently associated with the Shrine Clown Unit where "Big `B"' brought joy to many adults and children. Supported athletics at the U of U through the Crimson Club and was a member of Holladay United Church of Christ.
Survivors are wife, Mary, Salt Lake City; sons, Lief, Portland, Oregon; and Lars, Salt Lake City; daughters, Lynne Whiting, West Tisbury, Massachusetts; and Lori Franciose, Salt Lake City; brother, John, San Diego, Calif.; sisters, Beverly Hyde, Salt Lake City; and Gerry Gomersall, St. Paul, Minn.; and eight loving grandchildren.
Friends may call Thursday evening, December 12, 7-8 p.m. at Evans & Early Mortuary, 574 East First South. Masonic graveside services 11 a.m., Friday, December 13 at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 So. Highland Dr. Memorial Service to follow at 12:30 at Holladay United Church of Christ, 2631 E. Murray-Holladay Rd., followed by a gathering of friends. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make contributions to donor's favorite charity.
