Although it began operations last May with 40 employees, the grand opening of the Sears Payments Systems Inc. operation in Layton wasn't held until Wednesday.
"This center demonstrates the success of our economic development efforts and how they directly benefit the people of Utah," said Gov. Norm Bangerter at the opening.Construction for the 81,525 square-foot facility was announced on Dec. 6 1990, and it opened May 20, 1991. Today, 297 employees support the commercial and consumer private label credit-card programs of 10 SPS clients.
Employees in the Layton facility perform credit application processing, credit sales authorization, customer service and collections for the company's retail clients.
"We are very pleased with the progress of this facility," said Al Crawford, center general manager.
With headquarters in Riverwoods, Ill., SPS is a full-service provider of private label credit-card programs and electronic transaction processing services.
