The new city park proposal is one step closer to realization following the city's purchase of school district property.
The City Council has voted to pay the Juab School District $10,000 for the property at the top of the lot where the city building is located. Known locally as the Old Pink School property, the land is at the southeast corner of the city-county school board office. The school board and the city have been negotiating for several months. Council members think the park is a necessity because the existing park gets heavy use.
Mayor Robert Steele said he noticed tourists coming off the center city freeway exit stopping at the city ballpark to enjoy a lunch or a few minutes rest. Adding picnic tables to the new park would entice the tourist further into town.
Steele and Councilman Forrest Anderson suggested adding a sports area, with a volleyball court, a lap pool, whirlpool and sauna.
