A judge turned down a request by defense attorneys to delay the rape trial of former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.
Marion Superior Court Judge Patricia J. Gifford refused to push back the Jan. 27 start of the trial after hearing the defense contend it needed more time to prepare its case. Prosecutors countered that Tyson wanted the delay so he could fight heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield before going on trial.Tyson, 25, is charged with rape, two counts of criminal deviate conduct and one count of confinement for an alleged assault on an 18-year-old Miss Black America beauty pageant contestant in Tyson's Indianapolis hotel suite July 19.
He faces up to 63 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
