2nd Avenue: The city's Transportation Division is turning the street into one eastbound lane from State Street to E Street and into a two-way street from E Street to J Street.When: Immediately
Why? To reduce the number of cars using the street to cut through the lower Avenues and to protect nearby hospital and school.

Block 57: The city's Redevelopment Agency wants to destroy the Kress, Warshaw, Broadway Music, Osco and Hat Shop buildings along 300 South and Main Street to make way for parking and a landscaped plaza. The public is invited to voice its opinion.
When: Thursday, Dec. 12, at 6:15 p.m.
Where: Salt Lake City Hall, 451 S. State, Room 126
Why should I care? The RDA bought the buildings several years ago to entice a major development on the block. The development never happened, and nearby businesses worry about fires and vandalism in the vacant buildings.
Clinton
Santa visit: Jolly Old St. Nick will tour the city to distribute candy to Clinton youth. He will travel throughout the city all morning looking for children to greet and give treats.
When: Saturday, Dec. 14, 9 a.m..
Where: The city fire department will escort him into town from the east side.
