Morris Smith Bushman, 71, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died of cancer, December 8, 1991.
Born March 15, 1920 in Mesa, Arizona to Alonzo Ewing and Edith Smith Bushman. Married Lois Emily Andrews June 11, 1945 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was reared in Joseph City, Arizona, and graduated from high school in Holbrook, Arizona. He participated in the band and was a tennis champion.He served as a missionary for three and a half years from 1941 to 1944 in the Japanese LDS Mission in Hawaii. He received a BS degree in marketing from Brigham Young University where he was also a member of the track team. He was employed by Sears Roebuck Company in Provo for over 41 years. After his retirement, he worked five years in the Accounting Department at Bushman Press which was owned by two of his sons.
He was the Bishop of the Provo LDS 10th Ward for nine years and the Brigham Young University Asian Ward for five years. He served as High Councilman for many years in Provo and Brigham Young University stakes and held many other church callings throughout his lifetime.
He spent many years serving others as well as his family. He enjoyed using his mechanical abilities, gardening, traveling and had a great love for the Asian people. He was a member of the Provo Kiwanis Club and served as chairman for the bazaar for Provo Freedom Festival for
several years.
He is survived by his wife Lois, Provo; daughters, Mrs. Byron J. (Patricia) Christensen, Heber City; Mrs. Richard W. (Karen) Bradford, Bountiful; and Mrs. Clinton (Diane) Bland, St. Louis, Missouri; and sons, Steven A. and wife Rilla Bushman, Spanish Fork; Gary M. and wife Debra Bushman, Orem; and Craig J. and wife Kristine Bushman, Orem; and 21 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. J. Buren (Leonore) Carpenter, Chandler, Arizona; Mrs. Gale (Nellie) Mortensen, Temple, Ariz.; and Mrs. Paul (Frances) Peel, Mt. Pleasant; one brother, Dean Bushman, Auburn, Wash. He was preceded in death by a brother, Elwin E. Bushman; and a sister, Pauline Miller.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 12, 1991, 12 noon, at the Pleasant View 5th Ward Chapel, 1060 East 2400 North, Provo. Friends may call Wednesday, 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 85 East 300 South, Provo, and Thursday, at the church, 11-11:40 a.m. under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Orem City Cemetery, Orem Utah.
