Terry Anderson said Monday he wants kidnappers in Lebanon to return the bodies of two Americans who died in captivity: CIA agent William Buckley and Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins.
The freed American hostage also said he would fly to the United States on Tuesday, and that freedom is sweeter than he ever imagined. Anderson, 44, was released Wednesday after more than 61/2 years in captivity. In a telephone call to AP Network News in Washington, the chief Middle East correspondent for The Associated Press said he hopes two Germans still held in Lebanon will be released soon.
Anderson also urged Israel to free about 300 Lebanese prisoners under its control.
"I pray that the two Germans are released very quickly. I pray that the Lebanese . . . are released," said Anderson, adding he also hopes for "the return of the bodies of those men who unfortunately did not make it through."
An Iranian newspaper reported Monday that a planned visit to Germany by a senior Iranian official would open "brighter prospects" for the release of two Germans held hostage in Lebanon.
