A consultant has been hired to determine how problems with a fire safety system at Hunter High School can best be resolved.
The state fire marshal had threatened to close the school Nov. 30 if the problem was not addressed but has agreed now to await the outcome of the study, said Kent Gardner, Granite District spokesman. The state marshal found that the new school's sprinkling system did not function properly at low water pressures. The subcontractor who installed the system argues that it meets national standards.
The impartial consultant has credentials agreeable to all of the parties involved, said Gardner. He is to report his findings by Jan. 5.
Hunter is Granite's newest school. The multimillion-dollar structure opened in the fall of 1990.
