Buy from reputable merchants. Is that silk tie being sold by the street vendor or flea market merchant for $3 as good as the one in you local department store for $20? Probably not.
- Examine the fabric. The outer cloth should not be thin and flimsy.- Look for construction details. A well-made tie should be tipped and bar tacked at both ends. The loop label should be securely fastened.
- Feel the tie. The tie should have elasticity to enable it to recover after being tied in a knot all day.
