Parents with children in Provo, Nebo and Alpine School Districts who want to learn how to reduce the risk that their kids might experiment with drugs and alcohol are invited to join free classes beginning the week of Feb. 19.

The series of five substance-abuse prevention classes, sponsored by The Gathering Place, will teach parents how to use family meetings to develop a family position on drugs and alcohol. Also taught are refusal skills and how to manage family conflict, express and control anger, and strengthen family bonds.Free child care and refreshments for children will be provided. There will be a session taught in Spanish and also one for single parents.

The course, "Preparing for the Drug-free Years," will be taught at various locations throughout Utah Valley. Because enrollment is limited, parents are encouraged to register as soon as possible by calling The Gathering Place, 226-2255.
