If you've always wanted to see the world through John Lennon's eyes, here's your chance.
Eagle Eyewear, an optical company based in Whitehouse, N.J., has won an exclusive agreement to manufacture and distribute replicas of eyeglass frames worn by the legendary rock star.A decade after Lennon was killed by a crazed fan, he is remembered for his specific styles of eyewear.
"Through the years we have used John Lennon as a reference," said William Marfuggi Jr., 39, who owns Eagle Eyewear with his cousin, John Bartolotta. "There is a John Lennon style. Everyone says, `I want those little round wire John Lennon glasses.' It seemed like a natural for us."
The John Lennon Collection includes four frames:
"Revolution." From his earliest days with the Beatles into the 1970s, Lennon wore round wire frames. Lennon was photographed in this frame at his 1969 marriage to Yoko Ono in Gibraltar.
"Imagine." These egg-shaped eyeglasses, named for Lennon's 1971 hit single and autobiographical film, are available in silver, gold and bronze with plastic tortoise fronts.
"The Walrus." This frame is named for the character Lennon played in the Beatles' "Magical Mystery Tour" movie and his follow-up soundtrack recording, "I Am the Walrus."
"Double Fantasy." Lennon adopted a new style of eyeglasses with a modified-square frame of honey-blond plastic and acetate not long before the 1980 album release "Double Fantasy." It is available in matte black, tortoise and honey-blond.
Frames in the John Lennon Collection retail from $75 to $100.
All of Eagle Eyewear's John Lennon glasses are sized to fit men, women and teenagers, and sunglasses are gray/green lenses with a UV-400 protection rating.
Royalties paid to the John Lennon Estate will be used to finance a music scholarship.
