BIKINIS ON `E.T.’ DON’T DRAW PROTESTS

The local protesters who just couldn't abide Cher's outfits on her recent CBS special didn't have anything to say about a couple of segments of "Entertainment Tonight" featuring the singer/actress' ex-husband.

"E.T.," seen locally weeknights at 6:30 p.m. on Ch. 2, featured a pair of bikini stories on Monday and Tuesday. Monday was a look at how Palm Springs, Calif. - led by Mayor Sonny Bono - had banned "G-string bikinis" downtown. Tuesday was a look at the bikini industry, which again mentioned the Palm Springs ordinance.Of course, both nights "E.T." offered us up-close and personal looks at those G-strings - which were considerably more revealing than anything Cher wore during her special, which aired on Ch. 5.

But did KUTV receive any calls in protest? Not one.

All of which means . . . well, the meaning isn't quite clear. Either protesters don't watch "E.T.," Cher is a lightning rod for such protests or KSL is held to a different standard than other local stations.

"QUANTUM" LEAPING: Fans of NBC's "Quantum Leap" have been wondering what happened to their show lately - Fridays at 7 you've been tuning in to find bloopers, wrestling and auto shows.

Well, your long wait is almost over - "Leap" is returning to its old time slot, Wednesdays at 9 p.m., as of March 6. "Hunter" is getting bumped, and NBC hasn't decided what to do with that show yet.

LET THE "DOG" IN: CBS is about to join the prime time animation game with a half hour show set to debut on the network Wednesday, March 20, at 7 p.m.

It's a look at family life through the eyes of "The Family Dog," whose voice will be provided by Martin Mull. Steven Spielberg and Tim Burton (director of "Batman," "Beetlejuice" and "Edward Scissorhands") are the executive producers.

"Dog" will be followed by the returning Gregory Harrison sitcom "Family Man." Which means "48 Hours" is getting bumped - but we don't know where yet.
