Dwight James Williams, age 71, passed away Monday, February 25, 1991 in a Salt Lake hospital after a valiant battle with heart disease.
Born December 14, 1919 in Paradise, Utah to Thomas Ellis and Bessie James Williams. Graduated from Weber College, then the University of Utah, with a B.A. in English and M.A. in Educational Administration. Married Janet Jardine April 27, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He demonstrated excellence as a military flying instructor and combat pilot; was awarded Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, Purple Heart, etc. Served in North Africa and Sicily during World War II. Retired from Federal Aviation Agency as air-route traffic controller and airways operations specialist, where he was well respected by his peers. Served in LDS Church as bishop, bishop's counselor, High Councilman, and various other positions, and loved the people whom he served. Mission with wife to California Oakland Visitors' Center 1979 - 1981. Avid reader, world traveler, eager to learn and improve himself. Most of all, he loved his wife and family.He received great joy from each of his four children and 12 grandchildren, who survive: Janet, his wife; sons, Dwight B. (Nan) and Mark J. (Shauna); daughters Jean Watkins, all of Salt Lake City; and Barbara Peck (Kim), Sacramento, California; mother, Bessie J. Williams, Ogden; brother LaMont; sisters, Elizabeth Crawford, and Lucile Layne. Preceded in death by father, sister, Ruth Kleine, and granddaughter, Kellie Watkins. He was known as Mr. Positive, a gentle man, dearly, dearly loved.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 2, 1991 at 1 p.m.in the Bountiful 39th Ward Chapel, 1500 South 600 East. Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Saturday at the church 11:45-12:45 p.m. prior to the services. Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery.
