The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources announced the price tags that were placed on the special once in-a-lifetime hunt in Utah this year.
A Texas hunter paid $21,630 for rights to hunt a desert bighorn sheep this fall. Minimum bid for the prized tag was $20,000.The successful bid for a Shiras moose tag in Utah this year was $5,555 and was submitted by a Wyoming hunter.
And, the successful bid for a buffalo permit for the Henry Mountain herd this fall was $5,000 and was put in by an Arizona hunter.
All revenue from the sale of these tags is put back into the respective programs for such things as transplant and habitat programs.
This week has been declared "Utah Snowmobile Week," by Gov. Norm Bangerter.
The idea is to make people aware of the winter opportunities open to snowmobilers in Utah. Among the events will be the "Vernal to Ruby Snowmobile Mission '91" ride, a dance and dinner.
The ride started Monday in Vernal. Members of the media and the Utah Snowmobile Association will ride from Vernal to Ruby's Inn. The ride will take five days, said Craig Cazier, president of the USA.
The public will have the chance to become involved on Saturday when Utah's 10 snowmobile clubs host the annual State Trail Ride, Snowball and Dinner.
The ride will start from Ruby's Inn. The dance will follow at 6 p.m. Cost is $25 per couple.
Utah hunters interested in hunting deer, antelope, moose, bighorn sheep or mountain goat in Wyoming next year have less than a month left to apply.
The deadline for nonresident elk licenses has passed. The deadline for other species is March 15.
