The search for a replacement for City Manager John Hiskey will begin immediately and concentrate on local candidates, the City Council has decided.

The council voted to advertise for applicants through March 17 and then sift through resumes after March 22. A new manager could be chosen by the end of March.Hiskey, who resigned the approximately $50,000-per-year position last week, disclosed on Wednesday that he is returning to his job as a vice president of the Utah Economic Development Corp. as soon as the city picks his successor.

Hiskey replaced longtime City Manager Ron Olson seven months ago following a nationwide search. Mayor Kenneth A. Miller said officials believe a number of qualified candidates are available locally, making another nationwide search unnecessary.
