Gerald Bastian Carling, 71, died February 5, 1991 in Salt Lake City after a 12 year struggle with Parkinson's disease.
Born July 8, 1919 in Fillmore to Elmer and Christa Eliza Bastian Carling. He married Persis Spencer October 7, 1940 in Kanab. Marriage latter solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple. He was a painter and contractor for most of his life, and served as a guard at the Hanford Engineering Works durring World War II. Active member of the LDS Church, having served in various youth and scouting programs.Survived by his wife, Salt Lake City; children, Geraldine Rhoades, Newark, California; Duane, Farmington, Utah; Ron, Sandy; Randy, Lodi, California; Bruce, Kearns; Barbara Carling, Salt Lake City; beloved grandfather of 21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters, Wanda C. Day, Fillmore; Mrs. Frank (Clora) Martin, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Richard (Rena) Ziegler, St. Charles, Illinois. Preceded in death by a brother and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 8, 1991 at 1 p.m. in the Fillmore 4th LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call Friday 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial, Fillmore City Cemetery, under direction of the Olpin Mortuary.
