Von Hoyt Robertson, age 88, passed away February 26, 1991, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was the son of John Franklin and Nella Avelia Hoyt Robertson, born May 10, 1902, in Orderville, Kane County, Utah. He married Clarice Vilda Anderson, July 3, 1933 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died October 26, 1989.They had four sons, Hayward Stewart, Lodi, California; Julian Von, Orange, California; Anderson Winfield, Salt Lake City; and David Franklin, Darien, Connecticut; and 22 grandchildren.
Mr. Robertson was a graduate of Branch Agricultural College, 1925, Cedar City and Utah State University 1931, retiring from the latter in June 1968 as an Assistant Professor of Industrial and Technical Education. He was employed by the Utah Parks Company and the Civilian Conservation Corps. He served at Utah State University and in the State Department of Public Instruction during World War II and continued in the State Department, vocational division, as a state supervisor until December 1963. He was a member of the Utah and American Vocational Associations and of National Association for Industrial and Technical Education. He served on both regional and national committees establishing standards and curriculum for industrial and technical training and supervisory development. He was a member and secretary of Governor George D. Clyde's Council on Employment and Training. He was acting chairman of the Utah School Transportation Committee when the present school-bus safety standards were established. He co-authored the Utah Apprenticeship Law of 1949 and served on the State Apprenticeship Council for 19 years. He co-authored the Utah Fire Marshall Law. He authored the technical-related study courses for Machinist's Trade on the Union Pacific Railroad and the Utah Plumbing Apprenticeship program.
As a member of the LDS Church he was priesthood quorum adviser and teacher, a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, and stake superintendent of YMMIA. He was a councilor in two bishoprics, president of a 70's Quorum, a stake high councilor, and assistant High Priest group leader. He served two short-term stake missions and was a home teacher for over 40 years.
He is survived by his sons and grandchildren; a brother, Wayne, Overton, Nevada; two sisters, Mrs. C. Leonard (Edna) Heaton, Moccasin, Arizona; Mrs. Walter A. (Helen) Pace, St. George; and a sister-in-law Mrs. Homer H. (Elsie) Robertson, Surfside Beach, South Carolina.
Funeral services Saturday, March 2nd, 12 noon, Hawthorne Ward, 808 East Roosevelt Avenue (1450 South). Friends may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Friday evening 6-8 p.m., and at the ward on Saturday, 11-11:45 a.m. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
