A department store at 300 South between Main and State streets is the casualty of a wrecking ball, not a bomb. City officials said the building came down to make room for a 650-car parking garage that will serve employees in nearby office buildings. Part of the lot will be turned into a park, which will eventually give way to a five or six story office building.
