Former Weber County Sheriff George Fisher says the county will pay his health insurance premiums for the next eight years but has refused to do the same for his wife.
County officials confirm they also have reached insurance benefit settlements with three other former elected officials.Meantime, Weber commissioners are working to avoid future problems by changing the ordinance that makes former office-holders automatically eligible for the benefit.
Fisher said Monday that he deserves both his state retirement from his career as a deputy before being elected sheriff and county health insurance benefits.
Fisher, who also collected his retirement benefits while he was receiving his county paycheck as sheriff for 12 years, said he feels voters side with his argument.
