Three separate actions taken recently by the Layton City Council will help ensure the city's residents have an adequate supply of drinking water in the future.

The largest project is construction of a 1.8 million gallon water storage tank near Church Street and Fairfield Road. The council awarded the contract to Associated Brigham Construction Co., which bid $316,998.The council also awarded a contract for $80,000 to Claude Nicks Construction Co. to extend a 14-inch water line from 800 West to 1200 West.

And, the city is petitioning the Weber Basin Water District to buy an additional allotment of drinking water. The city wants to add an additional 70 acre feet of water to the 3,500 it currently buys annually.
