The numbers were smaller than those of January 1990, when 22 accidents claimed 26 lives. But last month's deaths were just under the 10-year average of 17 for January, safety officials said.Three of the fatalities last month were pedestrians and four were involved in a fog-related, multivehicle pileup on I-215 in North Salt Lake, safety officials said.
