UNDER MAYA SKIES: Guatemalan sites where the ancient Mayans conducted systematic astronomical observations and calendrical manipulations will be the focus of a tour being sponsored by the Extension program of the University of California, Los Angeles. Departing April 4 for two weeks, the trip will begin in Guatemala City with guided tours of archaeological museums, the 600-year-old Iximche, the highland village of Chichicastenango, the flower-filled town of Panajachel and the archaeological dig at Abaj Takalik.
An itinerary also offers Izapa in southern Mexico and Copan in northern Honduras, plus a flight to Ceibal, Dos Pilas, Arroyo de Piedras and a boat ride to Aguateca.
