The first petition seeking a portion of an 850-acre foot block of irrigation water set aside for Duchesne County as part of the Central Utah Water Project, has been received by the Central Utah Water Conservancy District.

Hidden Valley Irrigation Company is seeking 113-acre feet for use on an 84.2 acre parcel in Duchesne County. The district board of directors set a March 13, 10 a.m., public hearing to consider the petition. The hearing will be at the district headquarters, 355 W. 1300 South, Orem. A copy of the petition is on file at the office for public inspection prior to the hearing.

The petition prompted board discussion on whether the district should consider putting a time limit on applications for the water. Board member Gerald Maloney suggested that the board consider a one or two-year time limit after which the board authorize the water be transferred for either irrigation or culinary use in other areas of the project.
