The National Italian-American Foundation has asked Martin Scorcese and Francis Coppola to say something good about the contribution of Italian-Americans to American society if they make acceptance speeches at the Academy Awards ceremony March 25.

Scorcese's "GoodFellas" and Coppola's "Godfather III" are contenders for the Best Picture Oscar this year. Both movies portray Italian-Americans engaged in organized crime."Our interest is in seeing that all of the vast contributions which Italian-Americans have made to our society are not eclipsed by an overemphasis on the Italian-American relationship to crime and specifically organized crime," the foundation said in letters sent to the two filmmakers.
