The FBI was investigating the case of a Honolulu woman who became ill after taking a Sudafed 12-hour cold capsule, but agents said it was not connected to three Seattle-area poisonings in which the victims ingested cyanide-laced Sudafed.
The Hawaii illness was the first linked to Sudafed outside Washington since two people died and a third became seriously ill last week in the Tacoma-Olympia area after taking cyanide-laced Sudafed. The poisonings prompted a nationwide recall of the cold medication sold in boxed "blister packs" of capsules surrounded by plastic bubbles and a foil backing. The FBI said Sunday the Honolulu woman became ill after taking Sudafed which had been purchased either in Hawaii or from airport shops in Los Angeles or San Francisco prior to the recall.
