Salt Lake pediatrician Dr. W. Martin Palmer is the Utah Medical Association's 1991 Doctor of the Year.
Dr. Palmer will be recognized by Gov. Norm Bangerter with a proclamation March 30, which President Bush has proclaimed as National Doctors Day.Palmer, who has practiced pediatrics in Salt Lake City for 18 years, was selected for his work with abused and neglected children. He heads the joint child protection team of Primary Children's Medical Center and the department of pediatrics at the University of Utah.
He has served as an expert witness in child abuse cases, and helped design a teaching packet and script used by the Salt Lake County Medical Auxiliary in public schools. He and his wife, Nina, support the Utah Federation for a Drug-Free Youth.
