Police shot and killed two pit bulls Friday night after they attacked a pedestrian at 600 S. 700 East.
Officers on patrol spotted the dogs attacking a man, but the dogs ran away before the officers could help. The officers then trailed one dog, while another pedestrian followed the second back to their owner's yard at 661 S. Conway, according to police Watch Commander Lt. Joel Campbell.One officer fired four times with a shotgun; the other shot twice with his service handgun.
The biting victim, Gilbert Mays, 32, address unknown, had several bite wounds treated at LDS Hospital, Atkinson said.
The officers will be required to appear before a department shooting review board, according to a department policy that requires the review anytime an officer fires a weapon in the line of duty.
