The Navy command ship USS LaSalle and a British mine-sweeper officially reopened a major Kuwaiti port Tuesday, two weeks after Iraqi occupiers were driven out of the emirate.

The ships were welcomed by cheering officials and a 20-piece military band.The reopening of the the sprawling Al-Shuaiba industrial and commercial port 40 miles south of Kuwait City came after a week of mine-clearing efforts by U.S., British and Australian navy divers and ships.
