Ernest McKay Carter, age 85, died March 9, 1991 at his home in Provo, Utah.

He was born December 16, 1905 in Nephi, Utah the son of Thomas H. and Mary Crawley Carter. He married Ida A. Thacker, June 24, 1931 in the Salt Lake City Temple. She died September 24, 1981. He attended schools in Nephi and in Provo. He was employed as a sheep herder, carpenter, miner and then warehouseman for Geneva Steel where he retired in 1967 after 27 years of services. He very much enjoyed woodworking and made toys and other items for his children and grandchildren. He also made toys for most of the LDS Temple Youth Centers worldwide prior to 1981. He served as a Temple worker for seven years and continued to do Temple work until his health forced him to quit in 1989. He was a High Priest in the Edgemont 20th ward and has held many church positions.He was preceded in death by three children, Bruce and Alice Carter and Marilyn Carter Jensen.

He is survived by five sons, Wesly E. and Marlene Carter, Gerald L. and Kay Carter, both of Provo; David L. and Sharon Carter of Sandy, Utah; Dwight F. and Pat Carter of Ontario, California; Alan D. and Evelyn Carter, of American Fork, Utah; 31 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 14, 1991 at 11 a.m. in the Edgemont Stake Center, 303 West 3700 North, Provo. Friends may call at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center, Provo, Wednesday March 13, 1991 from 6-8 p.m. or at the chapel on Thursday one hour prior to services. Interment in Heber City Cemetery.
