Clayne R. Jensen, dean of Brigham Young University's College of Physical Education, has been named associate vice president of Student Life, President Rex E. Lee has announced.
The appointment is effective as soon as a new dean is appointed, according to Student Life Vice President R.J. Snow.Jensen announced last month that he would step down after 17 years as dean and seven as associate dean. University officials have created a screening committee to seek recommendations for a successor.
Jensen will devote part of his time to his new responsibilities and part to professional development leave to revise some of the 16 books he has written or co-written during the past two decades.
As an associate vice president, he will be responsible for intercollegiate athletics, with both the women's and men's athletic directors answering to him.
He also will be responsible for coordinating with special events, the athletic/academic advising function and the Cougar Club. He will continue as faculty representative to the Western Athletic Conference and National Collegiate Athletic Association and as administrative liaison for the BYU Faculty Committee on Athletics, Snow said.
Jensen was reared in Gunnison and obtained bachelor and master degrees at the University of Utah and his doctorate at Indiana University.
