The International Bible Society and the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association have launched a joint "Moscow Project" to send 4 million New Testaments to the Soviet people this year.
James R. Powell, the society's president, said the first shipment of 1 million Scriptures already has been shipped to Moscow for distribution before spring. On being presented with a copy at a recent meeting of the National Religious Broadcasters in Washington, a Soviet cultural attache said the Scriptures represent a "message from the hearts of the American people to the hearts of believers in the Soviet Union."
He called the Bibles a "spiritual bridge" that "will open a new level of communication between our countries - heart to heart communication - which will transcend language barriers, prejudice and misconceptions."
