Men with high cholesterol can have vastly different results when put on a low-fat diet, a study at Texas Southwestern Medical Center finds.

Researchers put 45 high-cholesterol men on a diet, giving only 10 percent of calories in the form of fat, far below the usual level. The responses ranged from a 46-point drop in blood cholesterol to an 11-point increase, they told a meeting of the American Heart Association.Nevertheless, a low-fat diet is recommended for anyone with high cholesterol, they say.
