Two Utah high school seniors have been chosen to spend two months this summer in Japan as part of the Japan-U.S. Scholarship Program.
Carter Chow of Timpview High School in Provo and Mindy Scothern of Layton High School will participate in the program designed to increase cultural understanding. Students are usually met in Japan by its prime minister and other top officials before spending eight weeks with a host family.Chow is a member of the Timpview tennis and basketball teams, and is an assistant editor of the school's newspaper. He is president of the Japanese Club, secretary of the National Honor Society chapter, an accomplished pianist and a member of the Key Club.
Scothern is a former cheerleader and member of the Layton High School Pep Club. She has served as the student body president and received several awards for academic excellence.
