Shirley MacLaine is in Brazil on entertainment business but managed to work in some politics and environmental work. MacLaine will help open a theater in Rio de Janeiro this week but during the weekend she and former congresswoman Bella Abzug went to the capital, Brasilia, and had a 40-minute meeting with President Fernando Collor de Mello. MacLaine told Collor that women should make up 50 percent of the delegates to the U.N. Conference on the Environment that will be held in Rio in 1992. "The president agreed," she told newspaper reporters, adding women could help "fix the ecological disaster created by men."
