While capturing the first women's WAC swimming and diving championship last weekend in Las Vegas, BYU qualified five athletes for the NCAA championships March 21-23 and garnered several individual honors.
All-American diver Amy Matheson, Salt Lake City, earned automatic NCAA qualification by placing first on both the one-meter and three- meter springboards. Other qualifiers were Hiroko Nagasaki (breaststroke), Kathy Doman (sprint freestyle) and K.C. Cline (backstroke). These swimmers, as well as Kim Killman and Shannon Hair, also met NCAA qualifying times in the 200 and 400 medley relay events.Cline, a four-time All-American from Tacoma, Wa., was named Athlete of the Year, and coach Stan Crump was voted Coach of the Year.
Selected to the All-WAC team were Matheson, Cline, Nagasaki, Doman, Killman, Hair, Alissa Tribe, Lara Rogers, Shauna Scollick, Courtney Nelson, Vanessa Bergman and Jill Teeples.
