An LDS church has been bombed in northern Peru, causing heavy damage but no injuries, police said Monday.

Police said they suspected members of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement MRTA, a pro-Cuban leftist guerrilla group, bombed the LDS meetinghouse in the town of Chiclayo, 435 miles from Lima, Sunday night."The blast ripped through the church, wrecking doors, windows and walls," a police spokesman told Reuters. Three people, including a woman, were arrested Sunday night.

Police also defused dynamite charges in several other LDS churches in Chiclayo.

"We can build the church again. It's a good thing there are no injured," said an American LDS representative who asked not to be identified out of fear of reprisals.
