A fisherman found the submerged wreckage of a Greek air force helicopter that crashed off the eastern island of Samos with eight people aboard nearly four years ago, newspapers reported.

The helicopter was on a mercy flight in the eastern Aegean Sea area when it crashed on July 26, 1987. All three crewmen, four patients and an island doctor were presumed dead, but the main part of the Augusta Bell-205's wreckage was not found. The Athens daily Eleftherotypia reported Monday that a fisherman found parts of the helicopter Saturday night when he pulled up his net four miles south of Samos.

The newspaper quoted military officials as saying the helicopter was submerged in 50 to 65 feet of water.
