Law enforcement officers are investigating two armed robberies of a fast-food restaurant and a car-rental business Sunday night.
A man wearing ski goggles and a pillowcase with eye holes cut out walked into the office of Payless Car Rental at 1974 W. North Temple about 9 p.m. and demanded money from the clerk. The man pointed a black handgun at the clerk, put the money into a white sack and ran out with the cash, a Salt Lake police report said.About 10:30 p.m., a man wearing a black ski mask and dark glasses entered Der Weinerschnitzel, 2353 E. 7000 South, and indicated he had a gun. The robber demanded cash and then ordered the employees into a walk-in freezer, a sheriff's report states.
After 15 minutes, the employees came out of the freezer. One of the employees began calling other employees to find out what to do. Finally, the mother of one employee told him to call 911 and deputies responded.
