An Army medical supply clerk who argued that her fundamentalist Christian beliefs prevented her from serving in Operation Desert Storm was convicted Tuesday of refusing to obey orders to report for deployment.

U.S. Army Spec. 4 Ellenora Johnson, who had served 12 years in the Army, was ordered to serve three months at hard labor, but without confinement, at her present post. She also was reduced in rank to private, ordered to forfeit $2,515 in pay earned at her previous rank and was given a bad-conduct discharge.Johnson faced up to six months imprisonment.
