The Orem Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire that extensively damaged one northwest Orem residence and caused minor damage to another Tuesday afternoon.
Firefighters from both the north and south fire stations responded to a blaze at 1008 W. 150 North around 3:37 p.m. The fire started in the garage and then spread to the adjoining home.High winds also caused the fire to spread to the garage of a neighboring residence, said acting captain Lane Pace. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it spread to the interior of the second garage. Damage to the neighboring home is estimated at approximately $500.
The fire, which took two hours to put out and mop up, destroyed the garage at the first home. It also burned about half of the kitchen and caused extensive smoke damage throughout the residence.
Two children were in the first home at the time of the fire but were able to get out safely, Pace said. Damage to the home is estimated at more than $30,000.
Orem Fire Marshall Larry Ballard is investigating the cause of the blaze.
