Ernest Wallace Hards, born on September 30, 1930 to Ernest V. and Helen Wallace Hards in Salt Lake City, Utah and died February 28, 1991 at his home in Salt Lake at the age of 60.
Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps 1948-1955 and served in South Korea 1950-1952. Married Patricia E. Olin on February 14, 1954 and is the father of 8 and grandfather of 23.Survivors include one brother, Charles Robert Hards, Salt Lake City; his wife, Salt Lake City; one son, Ernest Alan Hards; six daughters, Cheri Lynn, Phoenix, Arizona; Terri Lee, Phoenix, Arizona; Ethel Jane, Irvine, California; Patricia Merrianne, Salt Lake City; Judy Kathleen, Phoenix, Arizona; and Helen Constance, Phoenix, Arizona; and 21 grandchildren. Preceded in death by one son, Charles Stephen; a grandson, Charles Stephen II; and a granddaughter, Tosha Mae Warner.
He will always be remembered as a good father and, "We shall never forget the love he gave to his grandchildren, or of the joy he brought to us all." He was a loyal friend and always believed that, "Once a Marine - always a Marine!". He showed us all that great courage in the last year of his life as he battled against cancer; he never gave up and didn't complain. "Our love will always be with him."
Funeral services Friday, March 8th, 1 p.m., Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, where friends may call Thursday evening 6-8 p.m., and Friday the hour prior to service. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the Marine Corps "Toys for Tots" program, C/O Gu. Sgt. Pernyak, 583-7321.
