Steve Hart, manager of the Salt Lake City Marriott, has been recognized as one of the top eight managers of the worldwide hotel chain for 1990.
He was named General Manager of the Year for the Northwest Region, which comprises 18 Marriott hotels in an eight-state region. Hart has been manager of the Salt Lake City hotel for 18 months."This award is a reflection of the entire hotel and its excellent staff of 450 who have made the Salt Lake City Marriott exceptional," Hart said.
This is the first time a Salt Lake City manager has received the regional award, which will be formally presented by Marriott president Bill Tiefel in Washington, D.C., later this year. Hart also is a candidate for the chain's Manager of the Year award, which will be presented at the awards ceremony.
The Salt Lake hotel's sales were 20 percent higher in 1990 than any other year since the hotel opened in 1980. The sales increase was due in part to the state's booming ski industry, he said.
Hart was elected in January to the executive committee of the Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau. He previously worked four years at Marriott's Camelback Inn in Arizona where he was named the chain's Resident Manager of the Year for the entire country.
