Motorists along much of the Wasatch Front contended with snow and slippery conditions early Thursday.
The Utah Highway Patrol said the storm resulted in quite a few accidents along freeways in Salt Lake County. Some accidents resulted in injuries but none appeared to be serious, a dispatcher said.Snow showers developed from Davis County south to Payson in Utah County, with brief, heavy snowfall reported from Salt Lake City south toward the Orem-Provo area. Amounts generally ranged from 1 to 3 inches with about 4 inches in Midvale.
New snowfall amounts for the 24-hour period ending at 9 a.m. Thursday at the resorts included 8 inches at Alta; 4, Beaver Mountain, Brighton and Solitude; 1, Brian Head; 3, Deer Valley and Park City; 6, Park West and Powder Mountain; 7, Snow Basin; 5, Snowbird; and a trace at Sundance, said William J. Alder, meteorologist in charge at the Salt Lake office of the National Weather Service.
The weather disturbance was expected to leave an additional inch or two of snow from Salt Lake City to Utah County and an inch in Davis County and the Ogden area before exiting the Wasatch Front Thursday morning.
The thermometer climbed to a high of 35 degrees Wednesday, while the low reading was 22 early Thursday at the Salt Lake International Airport. Temperatures were expected to reach the low 40s Thursday. Low readings Thursday night will be 20 to 25 degrees with highs Friday near 50.
South winds will pick up Saturday as another storm approaches. Temperatures Saturday and Sunday should range from the upper 50s to near 60. Winds are expected to become quite strong Sunday as another storm moves in Sunday night and Monday morning. That storm could produce substantial amounts of moisture, Alder said.
