Arvil Lavon Houghton, 80, of Santaquin, our beloved father, grandfather and brother, died March 5, 1991 at a Payson hospital, of a short illness.

Born January 23, 1911 in Santaquin, to Lyman Carter and Mary Ellen Lofgran Houghton. He married LaRue Johnson, August 29, 1935 in Payson; their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died January 25, 1991.He was a retired employee of the Mountain States Telephone Co. He served as Stake Mission president and Stake Missionary. He held the office of High Priest. He loved spending time with his famiy and enjoyed hunting, fishing, doing yardwork. In his early life he loved to play the banjo and play in the family orchestra. They played for many church and community activities.

Survived by two sons and two daughters, Ronald and Judy Houghton, Tooele; Dennis and Gaye Lynne Houghton, Springville; Mrs. Lael L. Mitchell and Mrs. Kay (Louise) Tischner, both of Santaquin; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Verona Gates, Salina; Mrs. Reed (Olivia) Huff, West Valley City.

Service will be Saturday, March 9, 1991, 2 p.m., Santaquin Stake Center, 90 South 200 East, Santaquin, with Bishop Craig D. Evans officiating. Friends may call both Friday evening at the Stake Center, 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturday 12:45-1:45 p.m. Interment: Santaquin City Cemetery under direction of Holladay Hills Funeral Home, Santaquin.
