He may not be a household name like Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf but Lt. Gen. Thomas Kelly still has become a highly sought commodity. Kelly, 58, is the director of operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff and developed a strong following among regular viewers of Pentagon briefings during the Persian Gulf war. He's retiring from the Army at the end of March and has hired an agent to handle the offers coming in from those impressed with his wit and military bearing. Two corporations have expressed interest in making him a board member, and there is the possibility of consulting for the television networks. In addition, beauticians and barbers groups, insurance companies, a window shade association and more than 30 other organizations have offered Kelly speaking engagements.
