Kuwait will soon receive about $225,000 worth of emergency aid from Japan, the Foreign Ministry announced Friday.

The ministry had earlier said that Kuwait was too wealthy to qualify for Japanese aid, but it made an exception in view the risk of epidemics in the war-ravaged country. The aid is to be given in the form of first-aid kits, blankets, electrical generators and other materiel through the Japan International Cooperation Agency, an affiliate of the Foreign Ministry.

"Kuwait has suffered from many acts of destruction since it was invaded," the ministry said. "The government of Japan has decided to extend the aid, in response to a request by the government of Kuwait."
