The Salt Lake Golden Eagles pulled out a victory on the road by beating the San Diego Gulls 3-1 Friday night.
The Eagles scored two of their goals in the first period. The first by Darryl Olsen off a face-off. Salt Lake's Andrew McKim won the draw and got it back to Olsen inside the left point blue line. Olsen skated back and beat Gulls' goalie Scott Brower with a high shot from 15 feet out.Salt Lake's second goal of the period came on when Bryan Deasley threaded a pass from the left wing to Todd Harkins who was streaking down the middle.
San Diego's Charlie Simmer notched his 12th goal of the season sandwiched between the two Salt Lake goals.
With the score a 2-1 for Salt Lake, C.J. Young scored on a power play for the Eagles for the final score. Neither team managed a goal in the third period. Salt Lake is 32-1-3 when leading after the second period of play.
The Eagles, who are 8-2-1 in their last 11 games, improved their record to 39-24-5 with the win. The Gulls dropped to 27-36-7.
The Gulls and the Eagles hook up again on Sunday at 7 p.m. in San Diego.
