A pond at a yacht club in Delray Beach, Fla., became a seafood market for a man police say admitted stealing ornamental koi and eating the evidence. Premnath Hardeo, 30, a native of Sri Lanka, was charged with petty theft this week after admitting he took 10 fish from a koi pond at Palm Trail Yacht Club, officer Mark Davis said. "He said he was stealing the fish and eating them. No kidding. In the country he comes from, it's considered a delicacy," Davis said. The brightly colored freshwater carp, including goldfish, are widely cultivated in Asia and Europe as food. Each koi was about a foot long and worth up to $350.
