Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, J. Melvin Harrison, age 84, passed away at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful on March 7, 1991.
He was born October 21, 1906 in Kanesville, Utah to Joseph J. and Mary Lidia Burrows Harrison. He married his lovely bride, Thelma Jones for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 16, 1930. He granduated from Ogden High School and attended Weber State College where he was active and traveled with the Drama Department. Most of his career was as an executive to the Boy Scouts of America. In 1989 he was awarded scouting's highest honor, The Silver Beaver Award. In his pre-retirement years, he worked for the US Postal Service.He was an active member of the LDS Church in the Bountiful 10th Ward. His service to the church spanned his lifetime. He served in numerous capacities, including service in a bishopric. His most cherished service was as a temple worker in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for 10 years. He enjoyed traveling and loved to dance with his wife. Pop will always be remembered for his devotion to his family.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Thelma, Bountiful; children and their spouses, James M. and Sandra Harrison, Richard and Bonnie Carter, David I. Harrison, all of Bountiful; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Emma Bunch.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 11, 1991 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 North 400 East. Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and Monday one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery.
